Tenafly firefighters extricated Aron Yishai Unger, 61, of Spring Valley following the single-vehicle crash between Exits 1 and 2 of the southbound Parkway at 1:45 p.m., Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Lt. Raymond E. Walter said.

Members of Bergen Hatzalah conducted CPR while rushing the driver to the hospital after a medical chopper was summoned and then canceled.

Unger was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center a short time later, Walter said.

The 2022 Kia Sportage "was traveling southbound when it left the roadway and traveled into the center median striking a tree," the lieutenant said.

Members of his department's Detective Bureau are investigating the cause of the crash, he said.
